Sheridan College, with multiple campuses and over 250 backend pages, needed a complete website overhaul to better serve its diverse audience. The existing site was hard to navigate for prospective and current students, parents, and staff, and lacked modern structure and full ADA compliance. The goal was to simplify navigation, improve content accessibility, and create a user-friendly experience that made it easier to explore programs, apply, and find essential campus information

Approach
Newbird’s approach for the website redesign and development included a comprehensive discovery phase, where we assessed the current site’s content and structure. This was followed by wireframing and designing a new layout that would better support the needs of all stakeholders. We focused on developing a flexible, scalable website capable of handling the college’s complex offerings, all while ensuring an seamless and intuitive user experience.

Our process began with a thorough discovery and audit of all 250+ backend pages to determine what needed redesigning and how to restructure the sitemap and mega menu for better navigation. We met with key stakeholders, committees, and department leads—gathering insights from prospective and current students, parents, and staff—to understand their needs and pain points. This helped us design a streamlined user journey across academic programs, housing, financial aid, student services, and essential campus information.

Design
We designed clean, visually engaging layouts and components, focusing on accessibility and usability. Our team wireframed and designed 30+ pages to meet the specific needs of Sheridan College’s diverse user base. The design was structured to ensure ease of navigation, highlighting key sections like academic programs, financial aid, housing, student services, and campus life. Special attention was given to making the site ADA-compliant, ensuring that users with disabilities could easily navigate the content.
Additionally, the website was designed with functionality for both light and dark mode in mind, allowing users to choose the display mode that best suited their preferences.

We didn’t just redesign the website — we rebuilt the entire experience to work seamlessly across every device. Web Development
The website was developed on WordPress, a flexible and scalable content management system that would allow Sheridan College to easily manage and update their site as their needs evolve. The development process included building a responsive, mobile-friendly website with a main mega menu as well as secondary menus to simplify navigation across all pages and departments.
We also focused on quality assurance, conducting extensive testing to ensure the site’s performance across all devices. We implemented 301 redirects for old URLs, ensuring a smooth transition without losing search engine rankings or breaking any links. Accessibility was a top priority, and we ensured the website met all required ADA-compliance standards.
