What Is Page Speed Optimization?

Page speed is the amount of time it takes to show the content of a specific page to a user. Pssst, it should take less than 2-seconds if your site is optimized (for many reasons why, but the biggest being Google).

We know the tale all too well: you’ve designed a beautiful website, built it with care, and marketed it strategically to get qualified visitors there. But you’re load times are slow and, if we can talk candidly here, all of that hard work was basically for not. Today’s online users don’t like to wait and you’re conversion rates are likely suffering because of it.

If you’ve never considered page speed before, it’s time that you do. We offer our page speed optimization expertise as a stand-alone service because we genuinely know how important this element is to brands finding success online, positively impacting their user’s experience and conversion rates.

While it’s not a one-size-fits-all model, our team of design, development, and strategy experts will analyze, optimize, and implement key common factors that could be impacting your website’s page speed:

  • Optimizing Images
  • Enabling Compression
  • Minifying JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Reducing Redirects
  • Removing Render Blocking
  • Leveraging Browser Caching
  • Improving Server Response Times
  • Minimizing TTFB (time to first byte)
  • Dedicating Hosting

Why Page Speed Matters?

The importance of page speed has increased greatly over the years as more and more users (and businesses) rely on the internet. It’s a major factor in the grand scheme of CRO, with slow load times negatively impacting key metrics to conversions like website traffic, bounce rate, and SERP ranking (a factor Google uses for ranking sites). Even if you’re page load times aren’t “that bad”, it doesn’t have to be “terrible” for Google to rank your site lower than others in a search result.

For Google, SEO and page speed are connected and as a search engine, Google’s main goal is to provide the best results for user queries. They look to only display and populate the best that they can find. They’re looking for sites with great user experience (low bounce rates), and page speed is a huge part of scoring high on that, along with an easy-to-navigate site design.

Page Speed vs. Site Speed

Page speed is often confused with site speed, although they are intrinsically linked. While page speed is how long a user waits for an individual page to load, site speed is the average of several sample pages on a website. Both are important for ranking, but it all begins and ends at the page speed level.
